When summer hits hard, your body craves something cooling and refreshing. So today, we're sharing two amazing desi summer drink recipes – Mint Sharbat (Cooler) and Sattu (Roasted Gram Flour) Drink, both packed with flavor and natural ingredients that keep your body cool and hydrated.


Mint Sharbat Recipe – Refreshing Mint Lemon Cooler

Ingredients for Mint Sharbat (for 2 servings)

  • Fresh Mint Leaves – 1/2 cup
  • Lemon Juice – from 2 lemons
  • Roasted Cumin Powder – 1/4 tsp + 1/4 tsp
  • White Salt – 1/4 tsp + 1/4 tsp
  • Sugar Syrup – 3 tbsp + 3 tbsp
  • Ice Cubes – 4-5 each glass
  • Cold Water – to top up

How to Make Mint Sharbat

  1. Wash mint leaves thoroughly and make a smooth paste using a blender and a little water.

  2. Extract juice from 2 lemons and slice one lemon thinly for garnishing.

  3. Strain the mint paste to remove any solid bits (optional but recommended).

  4. In each serving glass, add half of the mint mixture.
  5. Add 3 tbsp sugar syrup, 1/4 tsp cumin powder, and 1/4 tsp white salt to each glass. 

  6. Add ice cubes, lemon slices, and top up with chilled water.

  7. Stir well and serve cold!

Tip: You can make sugar syrup by boiling equal parts of sugar and water until dissolved. Let it cool before use.

Traditional Sattu (Roasted Gram Flour) Drink – Bihar’s Famous Summer Super Drink 

Ingredients for Sattu Drink (for 2 glasses)

  • Roasted Chana (Bengal Gram) – 1 cup
  • Finely Chopped Onion – 2 tbsp
  • Green Chili – 1, chopped
  • Fresh Mint Leaves – 4
  • Lemon Juice – from 2 lemons
  • Salt – to taste
  • Black Salt – 1/4 tsp
  • Roasted Cumin Powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Cold Water – 2 glasses

How to Make Sattu Drink

  1. Grind roasted chana into a fine powder using a blender. This is your Sattu (Roasted Gram Flour)

  2. In a bowl, take 4 tbsp of this chana powder (for 2 glasses).
  3. Add chopped onions, green chili, and mint leaves. 

  4. Add lemon juice, black salt, regular salt, and cumin powder.
  5. Add 1 glass of cold water and mix well to avoid lumps.

  6. Add the second glass of water and mix again.
  7. Taste and adjust salt if needed.
  8. Serve chilled in a glass and enjoy!

Tip: Skip onions if you don’t prefer them. You can also add black pepper for extra spice.
